These Brazil nuts are foraged on the edge of the Amazon rainforest in the Mato Grosso region. The Coopavam cooperative brings together four indigenous tribes and farming families from eight settlements on the edge of the forest. The nuts are processed locally. The cooperative creates local income, counteracts deforestation and promotes sustainable development.
Nuts stay fresh longer when they are stored in a cool, dark place and, most importantly, protected from moisture. At storage temperatures below 16°C, pests such as moths don’t stand a chance. Store nuts in the refrigerator or in a cellar, for example. Use an airtight container to protect them from moisture.
