Recipe: Kiwi and Pear Jam

Recipes & more

The Greek organic kiwis can be kept for two to three months when stored properly. A customer sent us a recipe for giving the kiwis an even longer shelf life. We tried out the recipe and found it so good we’d like to share it with you.

Kiwi-Birnen-Marmelade

The kiwis are here! The Greek farmer Lambros Goglis harvests the fruits stone hard. Unlike with supermarket produce that are kept in refrigerated warehouses for extended periods, you receive the fruits directly from us. That’s why they are generally still quite hard when they arrive.

This is because kiwis are climacteric. In other words, they continue to ripen after harvest. This means you can store your organic kiwis for up to two months in the refrigerator or in a cold basement and only take as many fruits as you need at any given time. They ripen particularly well in a bowl with apples or bananas, developing a full-bodied aroma.

If you would like to preserve the fruits to enjoy them for much longer, we recommend turning them into jam, for example with citrus fruits. Our customer Petra S. from Germany gave us this fitting recipe.

Ingredients

Preparation

  1. Fill the jam into jars that have just been rinsed with hot water and seal straight away. Turn the jars upside down and leave to cool.
  2. Peel the kiwis and pears and cut into small cubes.
  3. Place the fruit cubes and jam sugar into a pot and bring to the boil. Then simmer while continuously stirring.
